New global food system, At the United Nations Food System Summit held that day, Guterres said that hundreds of millions of people around the world are hungry every day, 3 billion people cannot afford healthy food, 2 billion people are overweight or obese, but 462 million people weigh insufficient.
At the same time, nearly one-third of food was lost or wasted, and the food system also generated one-third of greenhouse gas emissions, and caused 80% of the loss of biodiversity. Therefore, a new global food system must be built as soon as possible.
Guterres said that food means life, and not going hungry is a human right.
The purpose of this summit is to examine all aspects of food production, processing, and distribution from a new perspective, and to form a more environmentally friendly, safer, nutritious and convenient food system.
This is also part of advancing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, “changing the food system is not only possible, but also necessary.”
